Gotham Season 2 Episode 1 Review

SPOILERS ARE COMING! YEH BE WARNED!

So I took so many notes last night while watching the first episode of season two, most of it is gibberish but I will do my best to give a clear concise account of episode one. Here is my huge overview of what happened, seriously a lot happened in this episode. Then I will tell you all my favourite things about the series so far. If you'd like to skip this overview my view on the episode starts under the pic of Tigress.

So season one ended with young Bruce and Albert discovering that Thomas Wayne's office was not all that it seemed, episode one starts with Bruce and Albert journeying behind the fireplace only to find a door and a keypad. What could the code be?

We jump forward a month to find Penguin running Gotham, Gordon is currently walking the beat in uniform and he is still with Lee (who I am beating will appear to be something other than what she seems) and the Joker or Jerome as we currently know him is in Arkham Asylum.

A caped character called Zaardon takes some blue liquid from his master, which doesn't seem to give him any heightened characteristics as he is quite easily is brought down by Gordon. Gordon is pretty annoyed at his new partner for being late as he has had to deal with Zaardon so then he hits him.

Back at the precinct we find out that Bullock has quit and Gordon is then fired by Commissioner Loeb for hitting his new partner. Jim meets Edward Nygma (Riddler) in the bathroom and when he leaves Nygma has a Gollum moment in the mirror, we begin to see the Riddlers descent into complete madness. Barbara appears in Arkham and Jerome (Joker) seems pretty happy about it.

Jim then goes to see the Penguin, as he feels he is owed a favour from him and that Penguin could get him his job back. But the Penguin wants a favour in return, Jim is not willing to sacrifice his integrity in order to get his job back so he refuses Penguins offer. Jim goes to ask Bullock for advice, turns out he's working in a bar. Bullock looks good, feels good and hasn't had a drink in a few weeks.

Jim then goes to visit a rather dusty Bruce and Albert to tell them he's no longer working for the GCPD, he can't track down his parents killer and although he could possibly get his job back through Penguin he won't do it. Bruce schools Gordon by telling him that he is sacrificing the greater good all for his stupid integrity. That there is a bigger picture, and sometimes we have to blur the lines. Jim decides to do Penguin's favour, kills a guy and then there's some freaky camera angles.

Back at Wayne Manor Bruce is fed up trying to figure out the code so he decides he wants to make a bomb to blow up the door. Albert as usual objects but then agrees to blow the door up. Barbara, at the Asylum gets herself a phone and calls Gordon. Barbara seems a little bit too crazy and she threatens Lee.

Penguin then holds up his end of the bargain and breaks into Commissioner Loeb's house, we then find out that Loeb has nothing to blackmail, which is pretty sad and he is kinda a good guy. He's not so much of the Jerk that we believe him to be. He quits his post at Penguins urging, Enson becomes the new commissioner and Gordon gets his old job back.

We then go back to Wayne manor and Albert successfully blows open the door, we find out the code after all was BRUCE and a letter is left to Bruce from his father, who weeks before his death was becoming extremely paranoid, but we still have no clues to his Parents killer. Then we met the master from before who gave Zaardon his blue liquid. His name is Theo Galavan and with the help of Zaardon, the blue liquid (which turns into air form inside Zaardons stomach and knocks our villains out) and his sister Tabitha (Tigress) he breaks a group of villains out of Arkham. Is he making his own suicide squad?

Wow a lot happened in that episode, I have three pages of gibberish notes. My view on this was it was pretty good, it took a while for me to get into the episode (it may be because I kept having to take notes) and some things were really weird but everything that was put in the episode was meant to be there and by the end it all made sense. I really liked Nygma's brief scene in the bathroom, he is just getting crazier as the series goes on and the actor who plays him is a perfect fit for the Riddler.

Gordon losing his job then getting it back again seemed a little rushed, but I suppose we won't get to see our villains without Gordon's being part of the GCPD. I am becoming more and more convinced that Lee is not quite what she seems. I can't trust Gordon's judgement, he is surrounded by crazy and doesn't notice. He may be the Ned Stark of our series. I get a crazy vibe off Lee and part of me thinks she's toying with Barbara, did she really kill her parents, I'm not 100% convinced. It also seems as if our new Master Theo is making his own suicide squad, which is a bit weird but I'm excited to see what happens.

I also really enjoy the relationship between Albert and Bruce in this series. I've heard people complain about a young emo Dark Night but I really enjoy the back and forth between these two actors and its nice to see young Batman before the eyeliner.

Anyway this series is definitely worth the watch, season one does take a while to get into it but I binged watched most of it and I really enjoyed it, especially the scarecrow episodes, so give it a go. You'll love it.

Mental Illness in TV and Film - Dementors

Image Source Dementors have haunted me ever since I read The Prisoner of Azkaban way back in 1999. I was a Pre-Teen who was pretty much unaware of the depression that was just around the corner, in a way this book prepared me for what was to come, and after multiple reads, it became my go-to reference when explaining my depression. First off let's give a brief outline of Dementors, these magical wraith-like creatures can generally be found guarding Azkaban Prison, sucking the happiness, hope, and peace out of everyone around them. If you have had a horrible life marked by loss and abuse (just like Harry) you are much more affected by them than someone who has not, as they also cause depression and despair in there victims. They can sense and taste fear, but thankfully they can't seem to tell people of the same build from each other, and they are able to communicate wit

Jessica Jones Episodes 1-2

[Courtesy of Marvel/Netflix] Jessica Jones launched this Friday and after a weekend of mostly binge watching I decided it was time to talk about it. I really enjoyed this show and will be giving my opinion on the first two episodes below. SPOILER warning for those who haven't watch any of these episodes as I will be analysing each episode. A.K.A Ladies Night                                                                           [Courtesy of Marvel/Netflix] So in the first episode Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is a loner, she stays from people as they just cause complications. We get a sense that she has done something, something dark, but we don't quite know what it could be. The day starts with an argument with a client who she throws through her door, she then narrates her typical New York day, and she ends it by spying on Luke Cage (Mike Colter). She wakes up in her apartment to find Malcolm

Thanksgiving

[Courtesy of Fox] So I'm Scottish and we don't get the whole Thanksgiving thing, but I have watched a lot of movies and television which give the rest of the world a nice little insight into this holiday. So you have time off work, you're not taking part in those crazy sales (which have also became a tradition over here, thanks), and you're stuffed from eating your weight in delicious foods. What do you watch? Harry Potter                                                                  [Courtesy of Warner Bros] So I don't know about you but nothing screams November more than our beloved Harry Potter, and there are eight movies for you to binge watch throughout the weekend. I just rewatched these and they hold up, you'll feel the magic, panic and feel relieved as the battle comes to a close. Witness Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), a poor orphan boy who lives in a cu
