Mental Illness in Tv and Film - Jessica Jones

Before I go off and talk about Jessica Jones I thought it was important to talk about my own horrible week, but right now I can't seem to get the words to talk about it, and close family has just found out. I hope to talk about it with you when I feel a bit more able to talk about it, so right now you'll just have to settle for the fact that I had a horrible week. Much like Jessica Jones it's easy to try and reach for the bottle to dull my emotions, but unlike her I know exactly where that leads, and it's no help to anyone. Jessica has PTSD from abuse she received at the hands of the Purple Man before the show begins, and right now that is all I can relate too. She receives flashbacks to her past abuse during the first season, these cause her to have a panic attack, and she recites the phrase, "Birch Street, Higgins Drive, Cobalt lane," as a coping technique used to ground her back in reality. This I can fully relate too, I use objects to bring me int...

[Courtesy of Marvel/Netflix] Jessica Jones launched this Friday and after a weekend of mostly binge watching I decided it was time to talk about it. I really enjoyed this show and will be giving my opinion on the first two episodes below. SPOILER warning for those who haven't watch any of these episodes as I will be analysing each episode. A.K.A Ladies Night                                                                           [Courtesy of Marvel/Netflix] So in the first episode Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is a loner, she stays from peop...

This Week's Trailers

This was a weird week for trailers. I dunno about you but I never noticed much, Star Wars took up too much of my attention. So I dropped the ball! This weeks had some great trailers, so this post won't include Star Wars as I have already covered it in another post, which if you haven't read you can check it out at the end of this post! Joy You can't always get what you want! This trailer looks like I would really enjoy this movie, which is directed by David O.Russell. The cast look great with Jennifer Lawrence taking on the role of Joy, a housewife with big dreams. She states that, " The world doesn't owe you a thing," and is hell bent on making it. Robert De Niro plays Joys father, Rudy, who is divorced and very brass, stating at a point that it was his  "fault that I gave her the confidence to think that she was more than just an unemployed housewife." Bradley Cooper is also in this movie playing what looks like a television producer which...

Jessica Jones Whaaaaatttttt?

She did not, did she? Did we just see Jessica Jones fly? Maybe she can just jump really high, if not then thanks Marvel for finally giving us our overpowered female superhero P.I. I was expecting her powers to be toned down a little. Yes, I am happy about this Internet. So the trailer takes place after we saw her wake up that afternoon, also after she got into a fight with an entire bar and now just before midnight Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is taking a stroll. She's walking very slowly down an alley, all you hear are footprints, distant noises and the gusting wind. Did anyone hear Purple Man (David Tennant) whispering Jessica? Thanks for making me excited for this TV show Netflix. I will binge watch all episodes as soon as you let me. That's my 20th and 21st of October sorted. But I'm always excited to watch new superheroes, what do you guys think?

Jessica Jones

So I have been excited for Jessica Jones since I looked her up when Netflix announced this TV series. So for those of you who don't know who this character is, Jessica Campbell is her birth name, she went to school and had a bit of a crush on Peter Parker. While with her family on there way back from Disneyland their car collided with a military convoy carrying, you guessed it, radioactive materials. Her family died, she woke from a coma several months later with super strength, a limited invulnerability and the ability to fly. She was then placed in an orphanage and later adopted by the Jones family. Witnessing Spiderman take on Sandman made her want to use her powers for good and Jewel was born. Although her superhero career was pretty uneventful ending in her being mind controlled by The Purple Man. The show picks up with her opening her detective agency where due to her background most of her clients are superheroes. I'm looking forward to this hero for hire situat...
