This Week's Trailers

So I decided to also do a this week trailers segment, similar to my past few weeks movie and TV news but separate as there are so many trailers released in a single week. This week we had whole bunch of trailers drop and I am here to give my opinion on all of them for your enjoyment.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn follows the story of Ellis (Saoirse Ronan) as she makes her journey to America from Ireland. She becomes very homesick, until she meets a boy Tony (Emory Cohen). He makes her laugh, and she really seems to be falling in love with this guy. That is until tragedy strikes and her mother dies. She has to go back home, leaving Tony and her new life behind. She meets another man Jim Farrell (Michael Zegen) and her heart is torn between the two.

It feels like I have seen this movie before, and that isn't a bad thing. I think I figured this movie out but it doesn't necessarily mean that I have. She is torn between a new life and an old one and here and now I am predicting that Tony will show up in Ireland and then she will stay there with him or go off in the sunset with him, notebook style.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

So I can kinda see what they are trying to do here. Strong women in period costumes killing zombies, I'm all for strong women, we need more of them but just no. The whole point of Pride and Prejudice is that Elizabeth Bennett is a strong woman, I am forever hearing that this book was ahead of it's time and it is specifically for this exact reason. Seriously go read it, she's a bloody strong woman.

I really don't want to kick at this movie, I am constantly going on about having more women in action based roles, seeing more women kick ass is great. But they did not need to add the title Pride and Prejudice to this movie. They could have just made a period drama with all female protagonists and called it "18th Century Zombie," or something equally generic. How good would it be to see Elizabeth save Darcy though? If they don't they missed an opportunity. Damn it, I'm talking myself into watching it now. It also includes such names as Lily James, Lena Headey, Matt Smith so it might be worth a watch. I'm still enraged though, I promise.

Big Stone Gap

Now I missed this trailer a few months ago but I'm gonna talk about it anyway cause according to the trailer site I frequent it was uploaded this week. Anyway it follows the self proclaimed town spinster, Ave Maria Mulligan (seriously I triple checked it this is her name) played by Ashley Judd. Her mother dies and she finds out the secret of who her real father is.

She then decides that she has to find her dad, meaning she has to go all the way to Italy to find him. With performances from Patrick Wilson, Jenna Elfman, Jane Krakowski and Whoopi Goldberg this movie looks like it could be some much needed comic relief. Definitely looks like a movie I'd like, but Romantic Comedies are my jam.

Tamasha

Now it may be a bollywood movie but it's still a movie so I am going to talk about it. It looks really interesting and follows the story of Ved (Ranbir Kapoor), a 9-5 kind of guy who ends up going on an adventure. This leads him to Tara (Deepika Padukone) and they both agree to lie to each other about themselves. They then seem to fall in love with one another and when Ved reveals himself Tara rejects him stating she is in love with someone else.

Is this other person real or is she in love with his alter ego who knows? But I think it looks really interesting, it seems as though this will not be the story that we all expect, instead it will be something completely different. I'm excited to see more. *side note Tamasha means festival*

Lost in the Sun

This trailer follows a boy named Louis (Josh Wiggins), when his mum dies,he is left an orphan and has to go live with his grandparents. His grandparents don't want him travelling on a bus for three days so they send John (Josh Duhamel) to take him on this road trip. John then proceeds to rob a store, tries to pay off a debt and gets his ass kicked while this boy, who just lost his mum, is forced to take part in all this guys seedy actions.

I had a million questions while watching this trailer. It's very obvious that no grandparent would ever send a guy like this to pick up their Grandson, unless they really were clueless. Why would they ever want to put their Grandson in this amount of danger, especially when he's just lost his mother. Could John actually be Louis' dad, well that's the vibe I got from this trailer. This guy doesn't seem to care about anyone so why would he care about this kid, unless he's getting money from it that is.

Race

Race follows the story of olympic gold medal winning Jesse Owens (Stephan James), as he faces not only discrimination at the hands of his own people, his own team and also from a Nazi occupied Berlin to compete in the 1936 Olympics. No one wanted to go to these Olympic Games due to the atrocities that were being caused by the Nazi and in this trailer it looks like Jesse didn't want to go himself. But it looks like his coach Larry Snyder (Jason Sudeikis) and his wife Minnie talk him into it and he goes off to Berlin to win four gold medals. Single handedly smashing Hitler's myth or Aryan supremacy.

I really like the look of this movie, it's about a subject I don't know much about as this subject as being from the UK we tend to only focus on our own great sporting heroes. I feel bad Jesse didn't get to compete in another olympics and also that he wasn't invited to the White House after he received his medal, what a dick move Franklin D. Roosevelt, that's right I'm calling a President a dick! Anyway, I will be watching out for this movie and I will also be going to see it. I smell oscar nominations!

Ratchet and Clank

So I never played this video game, I know you're all disappointed but when I was growing up we were poor guys, like really poor, and when we eventually (after a long, long time) got a playstation one (or playstation as it was called) I wasn't allowed to play it because it was my brothers and he never really let me play. Bet you feel crappy now. Anyway my other half loved this game when he was growing up and he was ok with the trailer so I guess for all you video game lovers out there that this is a good sign.

For me it just felt like the generic underdog story set in space with a Robot and a weird squirrel/cat type creature who has to prove his worth in this family swashbuckling adventure. The robot sounds funny, I laughed a bit during this trailer and it looked pretty good. Definitely one for the family.

Julia

So this woman named Julia (Ashley C. Williams) can't escape her past. She was raped by four guys and is now is about to get her vengeance. She didn't speak out at the time as she was scared so now she is going about killing the guys who raped her. She does herself up and along with Sadie (Tahyna Tozzi) who I guess in a way is her therapist, she seduces the guys who raped her and then kills them. There was also a guy who watched, who she then takes the eyes from.

Again I am all for female led movies with the woman being a badass but really? As much as any rape victim deserves justice this film is just doing more harm than good. I'm sorry ok, honestly I am sorry, no one should have to go through this kind of torture but she is not taking her power back, in this movie she is becoming the monster. There I said it. I will not be watching this movie, female lead franchise is good but I just can't do it. Sorry.

Freaks of Nature

Ok now this movie looks so great, the trailer is red band so do be warned. In the quaint town of Dilford Humans, Zombies and Vampires live alongside each other in relative peace, well besides eating/killing each other until that is the Alien apocalypse arrives. Now they all have to work together to bring down the aliens and stop the apocalypse. This movie has a huge comedic cast and looks like it could be on par with Zombieland. Well beside it looks way more violent, and who doesn't want to see a movie where a Human, Zombie and Vampire take on a bunch of aliens?

This movie looks really funny and really violent. Two things I do enjoy in a movie. When I was watching the trailer I kept thinking this movie sounds stupid to talk about but it looks really really good so go and watch the trailer above, if you're over 18 that is. If you're not ignore everything I just said and get your homework done!

The Boy

Ah it just freaks me the hell out. Anyway The Boy follows the story of Greta (Lauren Cohan), a nanny in a remote English village. She has been hired to watch the families child, turns out the family's child died twenty years previously in a house fire and they have a doll instead. Greta just thinks that this is there way of coping with the death so as the parents go on a trip leaving Greta alone in the house they give her a set of rules to follow while dealing with the doll. In true horror fashion she ignores every rule on the list causing some weird events to happen. The doll is alive or she is mad, or someone hiding in the house is seriously messing with her.

This trailer freaked me out, as you may know freaky children are my worst nightmare and this guy is not only a freaky child but he's a doll. Think Chucky but way freakier, as Chucky at least spoke. This doll just sits there staring. Oh it gives me chills. Will be a good movie for all you horror lovers out there, as for me I am ignoring it. The trailer freaked me out enough! Even that trailer picture is freaking me out.

Well that's it folks, the trailer list for the week. I did miss some out like the Danish Girls second trailer along with some others but I have previously spoke about those movies in previous threads and I would like to focus on things I have missed out on or are new. What trailer in this list gets you most excited? What trailer are you least disappointed with?

I dunno about you but I am going to disappear into a nice fun loving movie after having to watch that bloody doll trailer not once, not twice but three times. The things I do for you guys.

Game of Thrones - The Hall of Faces Trailer and Theories!

I've been watching out for this trailer for the past week and was pretty excited to see some footage from the new season. Instead we got to see the faces of characters, some of whom are long lost, and others who have yet to leave us. SPOILER WARNING for those who haven't caught up with season five. The trailer takes place in the Hall of Faces, which is inside the House of Black and White in Braavos. The hall looks great, creepy but great. We can hear some whispers which are too quiet for me to make out. Then Ned's (Sean Bean) face appears on screen, we then hear him say a line from the show's first ever episode called Winter is Coming.    "The Man who passes the sentence should swing the sword." The screen then fades to black and we then see a clip of some more rows of heads. We then hear even more whispers and which I think sounds like some drops of waters. We then hear the voice of Robb Stark (Richard Madden) who we hear give a quote from seaso...

Mental Illness in TV and Film - Dementors

Image Source Dementors have haunted me ever since I read The Prisoner of Azkaban way back in 1999. I was a Pre-Teen who was pretty much unaware of the depression that was just around the corner, in a way this book prepared me for what was to come, and after multiple reads, it became my go-to reference when explaining my depression. First off let's give a brief outline of Dementors, these magical wraith-like creatures can generally be found guarding Azkaban Prison, sucking the happiness, hope, and peace out of everyone around them. If you have had a horrible life marked by loss and abuse (just like Harry) you are much more affecte...

Mockingjay Part 2 Teaser

So in a similar vein to Sony releasing a Bond teaser to get our juices flowing for release, Lionsgate release their own Mockingjay Part Two clip. SPOILERS AND THEORIES ARE COMING! I haven't read the books but I have a few theories after watching this clip. I may be 100% wrong though, no guarantees. So in the trailer our Mockingjay Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), is greeted by our newlywed Finnick (Sam Claflin). She comments at how short his honeymoon was and he replies stating that he'll,"be having one in the capital, after they take it." Well if this doesn't scream I'm going to die in this fight then I do not know what does. We are then greeted by Boggs (Mahershala Ali), he is commanding the non combat unit, they will be days behind the first unit and that Lt Jackson (Michelle Forbes) is his second in command. Cressida (Natalie Dorma) tells us the team are going to be the Star Squad and that Katniss is at her most effective when she is seen by the masses....
