Better the devil you know, woooohoooo.. sorry I was channeling my Kylie Minogue there, apologies. Episode four of the third season was filled with it's usual twists and turns. Being a Marvel fanboy, well girl (is fangirl a thing?), I love everything those folks throw at me, even if it isn't the best I can't seem to take these damn goggles off. SPOILERS ARE COMING! Lets dive right in shall we?
Ok so the episode starts with a couple cooking dinner, the woman asks about chicken (tell me about it, cooking the stuff does my head in) and the next thing we know there is a knock at the door. In comes Alisha (Alicia Vela-Bailey), you remember her as she has similar abilities to that of Multiple Man from the X-Men's worst film and the comics. We find out this couple are pre fish oil inhumans, and Alisha warns them of a danger facing all inhumans. The couple tell her of an email they received and then comes in the big bad, Lash (Matthew Willig) and he murders all three of these inhumans, including one of Alisha's copies.
Alisha is in S.H.I.E.L.D custody as this happens and she takes it pretty hard, it looks as though she suffers some form of mental break due to one of her copies dying, tough break. The team then go into the apartment to collect any evidence (including the laptop) as Mack and Daisy try to chase down lash. We then have a jumble of a few storylines, Andrew (Blair Underwood) is pretty annoyed at Coulson (Clark Gregg) for keeping "specials" including Alisha from him. Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) is trying to convince Andrew that she doesn't have PTSD during their counselling session. Stating she is not one of his Inhumans, but is she? Doesn't the rock only change for inhumans? I dunno but one things definitely true, she does has major PTSD.
Coulson begins to co-operate more with the ATCU which both Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Mack (Henry Simmons) are not too happy about. I think Coulson is happy to be working more closely with Rosalind (Constance Zimmer) but I'll get back to that. Hunter (Nick Blood) is going to any stupid lengths to find Ward (Brett Dalton), May (Ming-Na Wen) is pretty concerned with his behaviour, and goes all the way back to headquarters to tell Coulson that Hunter brought her in and she is pretty concerned about him. This leads to an awkward encounter with Andrew, damn don't make that woman angry.
Back at Hydra headquarters Ward is moulding what looks like SHIELD 2.0, he wants hydra to be more like them so why doesn't he just make his own shield? That's right because he's the bad guy, but is he really? Back at SHIELD Simmons has a little freak out at Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) as she comes into the lab to find Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) reading over her notes on the big black rock. This leads Fitz to become angry at Bobbi as he now know she is keeping something from him. Hey, why not get angry at Simmons dude? Bobbi's stuck in the middle.
Conflict is brewing between Daisy and Coulson as they go on a mission with the ATCU to recover the inhuman who sent the emails, I didn't catch his name and I can't find it anywhere online so please don't chastise me too much. They think this is Lash but it turns out to be a computer programmer whose ability is he can feel those with abilities and has a terrible reaction whenever they are near. He cannot be near Daisy who is asked to leave the room and he speaks about Lash as though he is just a guy trying to do the right thing and relieving him of his constant pain. ATCU take Inhuman feeler into there custody, which pisses off Daisy.
Daisy and Mack eventually get to travel with him to visit the ATCU facility, that is until the Lash shows up, causes the lorry to crash and then he takes back the Inhuman feeler only to kill him. Daisy, Mack and the rest of the ATCU have been knocked out by this point, only for Daisy to then wake up to see Lash's shadow turn from spiky hulking dude to normal human being. I will also get to this part later. Daisy tells Mack what she saw in the hospital as Mack shrugs off his separated shoulder and Rosalind appears to check on them, some comedic foreshadowing there by the writers?
Bobbi is again training, Simmons comes in to apologise to her for her actions before. She knows that Bobbi hasn't said anything and comments on her running. Bobbi has a familiar feeling in her gut, a feeling which means Hunter is about to do something stupid. She tells Simmons to come clean to Fitz and as she leaves the gym Coulson and a tag team are leaving headquarters. Fitz tells her whats happening and then comments about it not being very nice when others keep something from you. Boom!
Hunter is on his way into Hydra territory, well in the trunk. When he gets to the headquarters and turns around to reveal himself to Ward, all hell breaks loose. SHIELD is nowhere to be found, I believe they are twenty minutes out. Ward quips about how he was hoping for Bobbi as she would have provided him with a better fight. That is until May shows up and starts taking out Hydra one bullet at a time. But alas, Ward has a secret weapon. The young Von Strucker (Spencer Treat Clark) is with Andrew in a store and is willing to take him out if they don't stand down. May can't let this happen to Andrew but just as she is about to give up Hunter, who at this point would be willing to sacrifice his own mother to get a chance at killing Ward sees red. He goes at Ward and ends up putting a bullet in his shoulder but hydras director gets away.
Now Hunter claims he did this as Hydra would be getting away with all of his guns but this isn't true, he just wants to avenge Bobbi, you can see it written all over his face. We cut to the store and all we see is a shoe and blood. A lighter falls to the floor and a panicked Von Strucker runs from the premises. They we all get to see an explosion. May looks so pissed at Hunter. Then back at headquarters Simmons goes to talk to Fitz. He asks her why she is trying to rebuild the portal and Simmons tells him the truth. That she wants to go back and he is going to help. It's time he found out what happened. Then the episode ends. Cliffhanger or what?
So my thoughts of this episode where it was pretty slow for the first half an hour maybe, well until Lash appeared for the second time. Then a lot of stuff happened in that last fifteen minutes of so. I think Simmons has some unfinished business on that planet, maybe those people we saw in episode two (you remember they were from the 1700s) are still on that planet. We don't know how there time works in relation to our own. Maybe this is why Simmons wants to go back, maybe there is a scientific reason, maybe she has something to stop which could affect earth, who knows?
Coulson and Rosalind are getting much closer, I can and everyone else can see a romance blossoming but I think it will fizz before much happens. They both seem too similar and they both live there jobs. I do love the chemistry between both of the actors though and enjoy seeing more scenes from both of them in the future.
Lash is obviously someone that knows Daisy, why would he leave her there to live. For those of you who don't know Lash in the comic books is a pretty traditional guy. As we saw in the second half of season two last year, Inhumans don't like it when people go through the mist willy nilly as it is seen as a right of passage. Lash feels the same way and after the terrigen bomb/fish oil he hunts down and kills who he sees as the unworthy.
Why is he killing people who went through the mist in the traditional way? Daisy didn't, she just happened to be there as Rainia took the diviner into the temple to receive her power. So he must know her and deem her worthy in some way to spare her. Josh Macuga has a great theory that Lash is Andrew and it does make a hell of a lot of sense. We all have been lead to believe Andrews dead (if Game of Thrones taught me anything no one is dead until they're blue, and even then), well as far as we know a shoe is dead.
Wouldn't it make a hell of a lot of sense if he was Lash? He disappeared from May during the terrigen incidents and is super secret about it. He's already evaluate Daisy, and has said she has promise. He gets super annoyed when Coulson keeps inhumans from him, we don't know very much about his character, apart from the fact that he was married to May and is pretty great at his job.
It just seems to link in perfectly as I can't see Lash being anyone else, some people think Simmons but during his first appearance Simmons was on another world. Some people think Rosalind, was that really the outline of a woman? It is definitely someone she knows, someone who would want to protect her and Andrew fits in perfectly.
So what do you think? Did you enjoy the episode? Did you hate it? Comment below, I do not bite, well I'll try not too.
YOU KNOW I'M REALLY NOT FEELING THE SPIRIT OF COOPERATION HERE!

i never try to figure out mysteries on tv shows (i like to enjoy the ride) but that is a great theory! plus it makes sense that they wouldn't waste blair underwood like that.
ReplyDeleteI would loved to have put the pieces together myself but when Josh Macuga said it on the collider after show it all just seemed to click. Your right Blair Underwood is too much of a star to waste.
