Now let's talk about Ward (Brett Dalton), I love hydra Ward best. If Grant has an evil purpose he is better for it, he might not have the girl, but he has a team. Ward is going to cleanse Hydra of all its money lovers. He will form Hydra 2.0, only in it for the destruction. Now that's the Ward we can all get behind, he might be the bad guy, but he's our bad guy.
So the episode starts in 18th century England inside a creepy mansion with men in powdered wigs and such. They are technically drawing straws but with stones, the white stone goes in the Portal. He will be missed but they throw out a hydra-esque quib about how they have to sacrifice to learn, wait no one actually comes back. Oh no Simmons!
We cut back to present day and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) being held back by the whole team as he's going crazy, but in the madness of it all he finds sand. He then runs analysis on this sand and finally proves Simmons ( Elizabeth Henstridge) may be alive but on another planet.
The team jump into action to save Simmons and Hunter (Nick Blood) is sent on his own mission as Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) gets out of the lab and into well flying the plane. The team go to visit a Asgardian Professor Elliot Randolph (Peter MacNicol) who is in a jail cell. At first he doesn't want to work with Shield, then he's convinced to tag along and also pretty intrigued by the stone.
Dr. Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood), or Mays husband as most of you know him, is back and working for Shield. Where is May (Ming-Na Wen)? Turns out he has turned down Joey (Juan Pablo Raba) for action, which Skye/Daisy (Chloe Bennet) is pissed at. She asks him to reconsider as well as enquiring about when May may be coming back.
Turns out May is in Sun City, Arizonia
Arizonia. On the golf course with her dad. He knows something is up but as usual Melinda is tight lipped about the scenario. Professor Elliot goes to shield headquarters to see the big black Rock. Turns out he just wanted to confirm it's existence and like any Asgardian he wants to destroy it. No one else can open up Portals beside them. He finds the scroll, he's seen this word before in Gloucestershire, England. To the plane!
Ward, rank on chaos is checking out a party boat with his head henchman. They make it onto the boat by planting rats to get all the women off the boat and then kill everyone else with ease and kidnap the boats owner. In this episode both Daisy and Ward go on a similar journey, there trying to make a team and both stepping up as leaders in this episode.
Hunter tracks down May, turns out she is staying with her father after he had a car accident. She suspects Ward may be involved. Hunter tries to explain that she will always be looking over her shoulder until she confronts Ward. He is out to kill him for the pain he put Bobbi through. May reaffirms that she is out, but he gives it one last go as he leaves.
Back in an old goosebumps style English mansion the gang have electricity and running water. A hole opens up, which would house that big black object perfectly. Mack (Henry Simmons) won't be happy transporting that alien thing but he does it anyway. It's a way of transporting Simmons back to this world but will it do so.
Fitz opens in and shoots a flare through it. Daisy starts screaming in pain, she hears a high pitch noise, her eyes start to bleed it's looking bleak as they shut the machine down. Back at Hydra Ward Edition, the boat guy (well call him that since I can't find his name), is getting beat up by Wards head henchman. He reverses the odds, winning the fight, stating who he is. He has earned Wards respect and can embrace his Hydra destiny.
Mays Dad is trying to talk to her again, she's cold but does eventually open up stating she wants a normal life. He quite clearly points out that can never happen, she's too much of an agent if she wants it or not. His daughter always gets back up. Boat guy (I'll learn his name, promise) is now with Ward, they are rebuilding Hydra by force, as a birth right.
Mack as usual helps Fitz work the Portal machine, they figure out its a frequency which they have to tap into. Only Daisy could hear that frequency, being Inhuman and she volunteers to help open the Portal. Coulson (Clark Gregg) gives Daisy a nice wee don't die, I can't loose you speech and she starts quaking. Fitz with added rope then jumps into the Portal to look for Simmons, he hears her shouting back at him. Then we see her, she tries to grab him, looses, then gets it back, oh no did she? Did they get back? Well yes!
The Asgardian destroys the rock, Simmons is alive and on earth with Fitz. Andrew then calls May to tell her the news, she's pretty short with him, but it turns on Agent May is back again. But this time with Hunter and killing Hydra agents. Simmons seems rocked by her tragedy, sleeping with a shiv, but that's to be expected. I want to see what happened on that planet.
So mostly a 4/5 episode, it felt a bit rushed in places but I'm sure it will all be worth it. Tune in next week for episode three!
To the PLANE!
This episode wasn't as good as the premiere. It didn't make sense that they would start using some ancient contraption without knowing what it was. Dr. Andrew Garner is right, they are being reckless. Luckily it worked. I guess we'll find out what happened to her in a few episodes. I liked that she went to Fitz for comfort when she woke up.
