Game of Thrones - The Broken Man

Now this week I don't have the time to go into every specific detail about what happened in last week's show, I've been doing some stuff I should be able to reveal shortly, so I have been super busy, putting all the plans in motion. Instead I will give you all a quick recap of everything that happened and try not to go off into my usual researching black hole.

SPOILER ALERT - For those yet to watch the Broken Man please come back when you have had a chance to watch it, I hate having things spoiled for me, and I would hate to spoil stuff for you too.

Now let's delve right into this episode.

Kings Landing

Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) is putting on her act again in front of The High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce), she talks about her old life when she fed the poor to make the people love her, and then The High Sparrow brings up that poor King Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) has mentioned to him that ever since Margary left the cells of the Great Sept she hasn't been fulfilling her marital duties.

Margaery then begins to act all coy when it comes to this matter, seemingly to make the High Sparrow believe that she has now been reborn into the seven. The High Sparrow basically tells her that women take no pleasure in this act and she will now just have to lie there and take it so she can produce an heir.

The High Sparrow must know that Margaery is putting on an act, because he tells her that even the unworthy among them can quote scripture. He also tells her that her Grandmother could also face the wrath of the Sparrows, especially since she was responsible for marching on the Faith in the previous episode.

Later in Margaery's quarters she is speaking with a annoyed Lady Olenna (Diana Rigg), who wants to speak in private with her Granddaughter. However Margaery tells her that Septa Unella (Hannah Waddingham) is their to stay, and speaks out for the Faith even when Olenna brings up Loras (Finn Jones).

The Queen of Thorns is rightfully agitated the Faith for brainwashing her Granddaughter into fighting for their cause. Olenna refuses to leave her grandchildren, even when she is urged by Margaery to do so, but shortly changes her tune when Margaery slips her a piece of parchment. Olenna agrees to leave King's Landing, hugs her granddaughter, but when she is clear of the room she unfolds the parchment which reveals a rose, Margaery is still a Tyrell.

Cersei (Lena Headey) goes to visit The Queen of Thrones with her usual Zombie Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) bodyguard, she wants them both to fight alongside each other in bringing down the Faith. Lady Olenna however things that Cersei has brought about the destruction of their two Houses and wonders if she has truly met anyone worse than the Queen Regent.

The Queen of Thorns is leaving King's Landing, and she tells Cersei that if she was smart then she'd leave as well. Cersei is stubborn, so Lady Olenna reminds her that she has no allies, she's surrounded by those who hate her, and that she has lost. Her last act of twisting the knife into Cersei's ever growing ego is to tell her that to watch her fall is the only joy she has gotten out of all the misery.

Riverrun

The Freys have totally missed the entire Lannister army (around 8000 men) coming into their camp outside of Riverrun, with Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn). The Frey army is too busy trying to lure the Blackfish (Clive Russell) out of the castle by threatening to hang his nephew Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies).

The Blackfish however won't yield the castle, even when he is reminded about Catelyn's death, even when Edmure is in the hands of her killer and has a blade at his throat. Turns out he knew the Freys were bluffing, and they don't have the guts to kill Edmure after all. I thought the Frey's were pros at killing the unarmed, ah well my mistake.

Jaime shows up at this scene, he tells the Freys to give Lord Edmure a bath and a hot meal, but he is met by the Freys telling him he's not in charge. Jaime reminds them that he has been sent here by the King and they will do as he pleases. Jaime then berates them for letting an army of this size into their camp so easily, then when he tries to fix it he receives more Frey backlash, which makes him slap one of them with his golden hand.

Later Jaime goes to treat with the Blackfish, who only received him because of the oath he made to return Sansa and Arya. When it come clear that Jaime does not have them the Blackfish then begins to berate Jaime, calling him a kingslayer, an oathbreaker, he cannot trust Jaime, so he just continues to chop Jaime down to size.

Jaime tries to remind the Blackfish that the war is over, but as long as the Blackfish is standing it won't be. The Blackfish has enough supplies to last two years, can Jaime afford to wait out their for two years? Jaime seems very disappointed as he just wants to get back to his sister, the Blackfish is very disappointed in Jaime, he reminds him of the position he is in, Riverrun is a fortress, and he is currently staying in it.

Jon, Sansa and Davos Tour The North

The Gift - Jon Snow (Kit Harington) asks the Wildlings to join him, Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) speaks out for him, telling the Wildlings that Jon died for them, he lead them to boats, he fought to save them, the least that they could all do is fight this war for him, because if they don't they're all cowards.

Jon then addresses the crowd himself, he tells them about the letter he received from Ramsay, they will all end up at war eventually, why not strike before they are ambushed. Jon is very good at talking plainly, I can see why the wildlings respect him, Wun Wun (Ian Whyte) is the first to stand up for Snow, and the rest of the Wildlings follow. Jon asks Tormund how he can trust them, Tormund replies that if a wildling says he's going to do something he does it.

Bear Island - Introducing Lady Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey) she is my new favorite badass on this show, move over Arya. Sansa (Sophie Turner) is the first to speak, telling Lyanna that she was named after her Aunt, but Lyanna is a busy Lady and she doesn't need to hear a story she's been told before so she shoots down Sansa. Jon then tries to gather he favour by telling her about her uncle, again Lyanna is not buying it.

Jon then begins to tell her the reason they have come to Bear Island, the letter that she sent to Stannis, but Lyanna remembers exactly what she said, "Bear Island knows no King but the King in the North, whose name is Stark,"  and then strikes down Jon for being Snow and Sansa for being either a Bolton or a Lannister.

She then asks why she should sacrifice her men for another man's war, and in steps Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) telling her that he knows exactly how she feels. He never thought he'd be in his position just like she couldn't have imagined ruling a Great House at such a young age, Davos tells Lyanna about Jon being her Uncle's Steward, about the White Walkers, and how a divided North will fall against their threat. Lyanna agrees to give them her men, all sixty-two, but if their as furious as she is the Boltons will pay.

Deepwood Motte - The party of three lands at Deepwood Motte which is ruled by House Glover, Lord Robett Glover (Tim McInnerny) agrees to meet with them in secret but he will not fight alongside the Wildlings. He met with them out of respect for their Father but he will not go to war against the Boltons.

Sansa then reminds Lord Robett of his oath, this cause him to turn, and walk straight up to her to tell her just what he thinks about oaths. His brother swore fealty to her brother, now he's dead, the Ironborn took over their castle, imprisoned his family, and no oath could stop it. His house gave it's life for the Starks, due to Robb's stupidity his House almost fell, and it was the Boltons who helped them recover. The Starks leave Deepwood Motte empty handed, wait a minute didn't Littlefinger say his army was camped their?

Stannis' old base - Sansa, Jon and Davos are all talking about their current options. They do not have enough men, Davos thinks they can chance it if they are lucky, Jon thinks they should march before the snow falls, and Sansa thinks that they need to try and get more men. Davos then leaves to go and break up a fight leaving Sansa and Jon alone.

Sansa asks if Davos is now his most trusted advisor, but Jon reminds her that he was a King's Hand, and they need all the help they can get. Sansa continues to speak about their lack of men, but Jon wants to march, but he then also has to go and help break up the fight between a wildling and a Northerner. Sansa is now left alone  and then she gets an idea as she stares at the ravens besides Lady Mormont.

In her tent Sansa is writing a letter to someone, now all I could make out of this letter when I was watching it was "have to fulfil your," but a Reddit User has deciphered this letter for your perusing pleasure. I won't spoil it as I have yet to read it but I will just throw out that there is another person she could be writing to, someone she would trust, someone who is family, and is actually in charge of an army, and it's not the Blackfish.

Volantis

Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and his sister Yara (Gemma Whelan) have travelled to a brothel in Volantis. Theon isn't having a nice time, he is completely broken from the ordeal he had fled back in Winterfell. He asks Yara as she is currently kissing a prostitute if they can leave, Yara asks her lady friend to leave and begins to talk to her brother.

Theon knows that Uncle Euron (Pilou Asbæk) is coming to kill them, and is agitated that they are staying their. Yara tells him that she knows that as long as they are alive they are a threat to Euron, but tells Theon to drink as he is Ironborn. She needs the real Theon, she tells him to drink again, she tells him he got away, they will get revenge.

Theon tells Yara that if he got revenge he would he hanging from the gates of Winterfell, Yara decides that vengeance would then be a better term for what they are going to do. She needs her little Brother back, but if it hurts too much then he should slit his wrists and be done with it. Everything she says sounds pretty harsh but she is giving him a huge dose of some tough love.

They will go to see Dany, get behind her before her Uncle can, they will help Dany take the Iron Throne and when they are done they will then take The Salt Throne back from Uncle Euron. Theon then looks at Yara, it seems as though he hasn't gone yet, they embrace and Yara kisses her brother on the forehead. Theon is in there somewhere, let's see how long it takes until he is back.

Braavos

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) seems to be in a chipper mood as she approaches a Westerosi Captain to book herself passage home, she even takes the money back from him even after she made him sail early for an extra bag of gold. Arya has learned nothing from her little side adventure becoming a captain it seems as she strolls about Braavos and takes one last look at the city before she has to leave it.

Arya looks towards the Titan of Braavos as we all at home start screaming at her, what kind of assassin turns her back from the path? An old woman appears behind her, and again us at home start screaming at her to pay some attention. The old woman slowly moves closer to Arya eventually calling out for her as sweet girl.

Arya turns towards her, and is completely shocked when this old woman stabs her before revealing that she is really The Waif (Faye Marsay). Arya is then stabbed again in the stomach and the knife twists inside her, didn't Jaqen H'ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) tell the Waif not to let Arya suffer? Is the Waif really out for blood against Arya?

Arya then gets away by jumping in the water, the Waif looks in for a moment but seems very satisfied whenever Arya's body does not appear. Now does she know a body would float, or is she glad she gets another round at killing Arya? I really do hope that she is clueless, and Arya just attacks her with Needle from the shadows.

Arya then emerges from the water in a busy market place, she checks the face of each person not knowing who she can trust as she bleeds from her stomach. Arya is in definite need of an ally and maybe Lady Crane (Essie Davis) can repay the favour by helping Arya fight back against the Faceless Men. I would also love it if it was Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) but I really do think he could be dead at this point, who knows, we never saw him die.

The Quiet Isle

Talking about people we never saw die, the show started this week with a opening sequence before the titles. I think this area is the show is the Quiet Isle as it is an area Brienne visits in the books, but it could just as easily be another place in the Riverlands. The people in a little community seem to be building a tower, and we are introduced their leader Brother Ray (Ian McShane).

A number of people are carrying tree branches, there is at least six people per tree, and then we see a giant man carrying a tree on his own. The Hound (Rory McCann) is back from the near dead, and it looks like the only physical scar he has from Brienne is his slight limp. He talks with Brother Ray before he goes off to find more wood and Ray laughs when he find's out Brienne cut him down.

The Hound then sits away from the group eating, Brother Ray comes over to talk to him, and he tells Sandor that the men are afraid of him. They then talk about The Hounds rescue, Ray had came across him a few days after Arya left him, he thought that he was dead, and then Sandor coughed which made Ray nearly poo his pants. Ray asks what kept him alive, The Hound answers that it was hate.

Brother Ray then moves onto the topic of the Gods, he doesn't know what God is the real one, or if they are all the same God, but he knows that whatever God it is, he has a plan for Sandor Clegane. It doesn't matter what he has done, he is alive for a reason. The Hound then asks that if God's real then why hasn't he been punished, Brother Ray then tells him that he has.

Later Brother Ray is telling his story to the community of people, he was once a bad guy who had done a lot of terrible things, he even killed a boy in front of his mother, and at the time he seemed to enjoy it. However that night the guilt started to set in, he started to hear her screaming, and he will never stop hearing those screams for the rest of his life.

But it's never to late to turn back from anything, he put his life into helping those that needed it, and he would never kill again. Just at that point a few members of the Brotherhood Without Banners show up to ask this community what they are doing. Brother Ray greets them with seven blessings, tells them that they have no weapons, no steel, and that they are welcome to food but there are folks here that need it.

The Brotherhood leaves just before telling them to stay safe, this is not a good omen. Later while The Hound is chopping wood Brother Ray comes to speak about what happened. The Hound tell's him the Brotherhood follow the Red God, and it wasn't a very good idea to wish them seven blessings. The Hound is threatened by them and he tells Ray that they need to fight.

Brother Ray however won't listen to him, he wouldn't fight them even if it meant defending himself. The Hound thinks that this is crazy, but Brother Ray explains to The Hound that he believes violence to be a disease, which spreads and warps the minds of men. Ray then asks if the Hound wants to get some food, but he decides to go chop some more wood so Ray tells him he will leave him some soup for later.

Later The Hound appears to be in the Forest, he has chopped a lot of firewood, he then hears the sound of screaming in the distance, and he begins to run towards it. He is too late however, all the people are dead, they did not even defend themselves against this horror.

Sandor slowly walks in a daze as bodies of men and women are littered at his feet. The Hound then reaches the half built tower to find Brother Ray hanging from the middle. He stares at it for a moment before turning back around at full speed and reaching for his axe. The Hound is back baby!

Predictions

This week's Game of Thrones was the second episode in a row without too much action, not that I bother very much as I do love some political drama, this makes me think that the last three episodes of this season are going to be action packed. The trailers tells this story, Cersei is choosing violence, Brienne and Jaime are standing off against one another, Jaime is also about to storm Riverrun, Tyrion looks like he has a visitor on his roof, and Arya is chasing the Waif around Braavos. Just remember the trailer for last week's episode when we all thought Jaime was going to kill The High Sparrow, so it could be some more character development before the big battle.

My predictions for the next episode/season are quite the tinfoil hat of sorts:

  • Lady Stoneheart will appear before the end of this season if not the next episode, The Hound is probably going to go on a killing spree which may grab her attention.
  • Daenerys Targaryen may not come to Westeros but she will begin to sail west by the end of this season (or each towards Asshai, remember to go West she must go East).
  • The Wall will come down by the end of this season, or it will come down just as Dany lands in Westeros.
  • King Tommen will be dead by the end of this season, and someone will come back to the show to rule the kingdom.
  • R + L = J will either be confirmed or denied by the last episode of the season. I am currently rooting for it, but if they decide to let George reveal it first in Winds of Winter then I will also be happy.
  • A Main Character Will Die - I know it's easy to say this but I am going to give a big main character death prediction for this season. I will probably be wrong, but I think Sansa will die this season, we want her to just kill Ramsay but I think vengeance will cloud her judgement, and she will end up getting herself killed.
  • Jaime will find out about Cersei's Affair - Remember Cersei was sleeping with Lancel way back when Jaime was in a tiny wooden cage? Jaime will find out about her affair and finally start hating her for moving on for him so easily.
  • Sansa actually sent the letter to Robert - Sansa may have been writing her letter to Littlefinger, I actually believe that she would be sending the letter to him, but I forgot that she could instead reach out to her little cousin Robin Arryn. Maybe she decided it would be easier pleading to him for men instead of going to Littlefinger, and maybe she would even marry him for it.
That's my recap and predictions for the rest of this season of Game of Thrones, I am constantly reading up on Game of Thrones theories so if you have any you would like to share then please feel free to tell me some in the comment section below.

Mental Illness in TV and Film - Dementors

Image Source Dementors have haunted me ever since I read The Prisoner of Azkaban way back in 1999. I was a Pre-Teen who was pretty much unaware of the depression that was just around the corner, in a way this book prepared me for what was to come, and after multiple reads, it became my go-to reference when explaining my depression. First off let's give a brief outline of Dementors, these magical wraith-like creatures can generally be found guarding Azkaban Prison, sucking the happiness, hope, and peace out of everyone around them. If you have had a horrible life marked by loss and abuse (just like Harry) you are much more affected by them than someone who has not, as they also cause depression and despair in there victims. They can sense and taste fear, but thankfully they can't seem to tell people of the same build from each other, and they are able to communicate wit

Jessica Jones Episodes 1-2

[Courtesy of Marvel/Netflix] Jessica Jones launched this Friday and after a weekend of mostly binge watching I decided it was time to talk about it. I really enjoyed this show and will be giving my opinion on the first two episodes below. SPOILER warning for those who haven't watch any of these episodes as I will be analysing each episode. A.K.A Ladies Night                                                                           [Courtesy of Marvel/Netflix] So in the first episode Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is a loner, she stays from people as they just cause complications. We get a sense that she has done something, something dark, but we don't quite know what it could be. The day starts with an argument with a client who she throws through her door, she then narrates her typical New York day, and she ends it by spying on Luke Cage (Mike Colter). She wakes up in her apartment to find Malcolm

Thanksgiving

[Courtesy of Fox] So I'm Scottish and we don't get the whole Thanksgiving thing, but I have watched a lot of movies and television which give the rest of the world a nice little insight into this holiday. So you have time off work, you're not taking part in those crazy sales (which have also became a tradition over here, thanks), and you're stuffed from eating your weight in delicious foods. What do you watch? Harry Potter                                                                  [Courtesy of Warner Bros] So I don't know about you but nothing screams November more than our beloved Harry Potter, and there are eight movies for you to binge watch throughout the weekend. I just rewatched these and they hold up, you'll feel the magic, panic and feel relieved as the battle comes to a close. Witness Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), a poor orphan boy who lives in a cu
